My sweet Peyton Rae is at home feeling sick today. I don't think there's much of anything that can prepare you for your baby's first sick day. I literally spent a good hour curled up on the bed, spit up in my hair, tears down my cheeks, trying to wish her discomfort away. But Peyton Rae being the sweet little thing she is just gazed up at me with those big blues and a grin as if to say "it's gonna be ok momma."
I swear, this kid makes the world spin 'round and tonight she just wants to snuggle with momma and daddy. So I'm going to enjoy it while I can and cut this one short. I will post Peyton's labor and delivery story soon to make it up to ya though , promise!

Introduction
Our story started nearly one year ago.
My MIL was headed into surgery to have her cancer removed (they got it all!) and I thought to myself that it would be so special if she could wake up to the news that she was going to be a grandma. We had been trying to get pregnant for about 6 weeks or so and the last month I was sure our little angel was in there. But test after test turned up negative. This time I was certain that there would be no big plus sign, just a big fat negative. But, it was worth a shot right?
I arrived home and my husband was still at work, it was going to be negative anyways so why wait? It was 5 days before my period and late in the afternoon, no way it'd be positive. But there it was. I hadn't even finished pulling my pants up when I saw a faint line race vertically across the strip. My mouth fell open and I watched as it got darker and darker. I remember walking out into the hall and falling to my knees, tears flowing down my cheeks and crying "Thank you! Thank you God!" I'm not outwardly very religious but for this baby I prayed. I prayed in the car on the way to the store "Please let this be it. Please let it be my turn." And it was.
I was shaking, so full of excitement and nerves. I was going to be a mom. Mom. I needed to call my mom! It sounds silly but, I was still sort of nervous that I'd be in trouble for getting pregnant. I mean, I was 24 years old, married 3 years, we had steady income and good cars. But, I just needed to hear that it was ok, that we were ready.
"Hello?"
"Hey Mom, what're you guys up to?"
My mom was in the car with the twins waiting for my dad at the train station. She kept going on about her grand kids driving her up the walls. Why wouldn't she stop talking? I have important stuff to tell you lady!
"Well you should probably get ready to have another grand baby to drive you crazy. "
There it was, I told her. I could hear the tears in her voice as she exclaimed her excitement. I distinctly remember my niece Allyson's sweet little voice asking
"Kim-Moms having a baby?!?!"
We all celebrated together as we waited for my dad to get in the car and join the party. Cue the nerves again. When my Dad asked me how I was and I replied with "pregnant." I thought I was going to hear him faint. We all chatted and cried for a bit longer and then it was time to get ready to tell the daddy to be.
When Cody arrived home I told him that I had picked up a gift for him from the archery shop. I watched as he read the card
"The only thing better than having you for my husband, is our baby having you for their Daddy. "
He looked at it puzzled and I instructed him to look underneath it. He grabbed the stick and turned to me with a face splitting grin.
"Really? Are you serious? Really? I have to call my dad!"
I listened as he proudly told his dad the news that he was going to be a dad himself.
His mom wasn't quite out of surgery yet so we waited and talked excitedly about the future. If we thought our baby would be a boy or a girl. Who they would look like, what kind of parents we would be. Then it was time.
We got the call from Cody's brother that his mom was out of surgery. I don't remember much of the phone call because what stood out the most was the sound of pure happiness in Lisa's voice. I remember her saying that this was the greatest gift. We were so glad that everything had gone well and that in some small way, we could help make recovery a little bit sweeter. We couldn't wait to see what the future held. We were all about to embark on the sweetest journey I've ever known.
